The Best Gardening Books for Beginner Gardeners: Books that Educate and Inspire
I believe that local is best, as in the best education you can get on gardening is from other local gardeners. However, there are some gardening books that I have found very helpful and inspirational! Here are a few:
If you’re like me, you like to read cookbooks and gardening books like a good fiction book. I love to read these cover to cover, every word and soak up every image.
Some of my favorites are old, very old. And you may have to search on eBay for them. However, there are a few newer editions that you should be able to find easily at your local bookstore or on Amazon as I’ve linked below!

The Complete Gardener
If you follow me on Instagram, you know how much I love Monty Don and all of his television series. His recently updated edition of The Complete Gardener is as extensive in it’s information as it is stunning in it’s execution and display. Monty writes in his charming tone making this beginner-ish gardener feel more confident and inspired after reading.

Martha Stewart’s Gardening: Month by Month
For this classic gardening book, you may have to search eBay—or your local thrift store like I did! There is wonderful, monthly information and inspiration. However, what always captivates me most is the drawing of her garden’s ‘floorplan’ of her Turkey Hill home on the inside cover.
If you’re looking to pull timeless inspiration and ideas for your garden, this is a must-have on your book shelf.

Cut Flower Garden
Erin and her husband graced the cover of my final issue of my magazine Cottage Hill. This was just before her book came out, before their successful show on Magnolia Network. And let me tell you; not only is Floret Flowers beautiful, but the entire team is absolutely amazing. This books covers everything you need to know about starting a cut flower garden, and the layout and imagery is stunning.

I discovered Nicole and her brand Gardenary through Eric Kelley—an amazing film photographer I met when I worked in the wedding world. Eric photographed this stunning gardening book. Not only is it beautiful, but I love Nicole’s take on the kitchen garden. She breaks things down step-by-step making this perfect for any beginner!
